General information on Trypanosomiasis
Trypanosomiasis is a disease that dogs obtain from the insect called the kissing bug. These bugs come out of the cracks at night and bite the face of the sleeping dog. The infection occurs through the contamination of the bug bites by the insect’s feces.
Symptoms of Trypanosomiasis
The symptoms of Trypanosomiasis are enlargement of the lymph nodes and spleen, fever, weakness, inflammation of the spinal cord and brain, heart arrhythmias.
Treatments for Trypanosomiasis
There are experimental drugs for Trypanosomiasis, however, the response has been poor. Because this disease can be transmitted to humans and is often fatal, euthanasia is usually recommended.
