Zygomycosis
General information on Zygomycosis
Zygomycosis is a skin disease caused by the fungi called Zygomycetes. This fungus is found in the soil and live on decaying vegetation. In animals with a weakened immune system this fungus can cause infections. The infections appear as nodules on the skin and may become a draining open sore.
Symptoms of Zygomycosis
The symptoms of Zygomycosis are nodules on the skin, and open draining, sores. Nodules can also occur in the gastrointestinal tract. In these cases symptoms may be vomiting, pneumonia, and jaundice.
Treatments for Zygomycosis
If you see draining skin nodules on your dog seek veterinary care. The treatment for Zygomycosis is usually surgical removal of the nodules followed by medication.
