General information on Whipworms

The Whipworm attaches itself to the wall of the gut in the large intestine. Infestations are generally light. Therefore, it is sometimes difficult to detect the precense of whipworms. Heavy infestations do occur in dogs where the soil is badly conaminated with eggs. These dogs lose weight, appear less cautious, and frequently have diarrhea.

Symptoms of Whipworms

Symptoms of Whipworms include weight loss, diarrhea, and a change in behavior (dog becomes less cautious).

Treatments for Whipworms

Periodic stool checks are advisable to identify the presence of whipworms. Usually several courses of preparations that may include Panacur, Telmintic, and Vercom paste over a prolonged period are required to eliminate the infestation of whipworms.
